An introductory course into creating video introductions that set you apart.

Think of this ad as a TV Commercial for that brand called You. We do not want to place any limits on your creativity. But we do have two technical requirements.

Keep your videos under two minutes in length. (When's the last time you saw a two minute commercial?) And keep the file size under 100 MB.

Here are a few suggestions that might help your video be more effective and fun to watch.

  • Start by introducing yourself.
  • Don't recite your resume. Your prospective employer already has access to that information in a download.
  • Highlight your relevant experience and skills.
  • Tell a story or share relevant career accomplishments; just be careful not to rattle off a list of numbers.
  • Address a problem or offer a specific example that is relevant to the job you're seeking.
  • Film in a situation or setting that allows you to be as comfortable as possible.
  • You can film outdoors or behind the webcam on your computer. It doesn't matter where or how you create your videos, as long as they're creative, relevant and represent you.
  • Take into account the background noise that occurs in your setting. Too much can be distracting.
  • Create customized videos for specific job opportunities.
  • Keep your audience in mind; consider the appropriate clothing and video location based on what would be appropriate for that industry.
  • Practice. Not even movie stars get it in one take.
  • Review what you said. You can fine-tune your performance as many times as you need to. Besides, it's good practice for the actual interview.
  • Use a tripod or place the camera on a sturdy surface. It'll make you look better and keep the employer from losing his lunch from too much shaky camera work.
  • Have fun. Your career is something you love.
